Blog: Sooners still have shot at satisfaction

— It's easy to get down on Oklahoma Sooners football. Expectations are extremely high every season, whether the talent merits them or not.

OU has two losses this season, and while the Sooners missed the BCS, they landed in the next-best bowl: The AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, to be played at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Waiting for the Sooners is Texas A&M, led by former OU assistant coach Kevin Sumlin, who is now the head coach of the Aggies, and Heisman Trophy-winning freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The matchup will make Oklahoma the first team to play against each of the season's top-three Heisman finalists since Florida in 1993.

OU lost to the other two, getting beat by Collin Klein's Kansas State Wildcats and Manti Te'o's national championship game-bound Notre Dame, both at home.

The Cotton Bowl provides the Sooners with the chance to end the season in a satisfying manner. The Sooners and Aggies had a rivalry in the Big 12 South for years, before A&M moved to the SEC this season.

If the Sooners can end the season with only two losses to quality teams with Heisman finalists, while beating the Heisman winner and a conference defector in the biggest non-BCS bowl, OU fans should have no reason to be down on the 2012 season.
