The Miracle of Christmas

It is hard to believe that there are only 21 days left until Christmas.
Where has this year gone? Christmas, however, is the time of year that we look forward to, and count down the days. All over town we are enjoying the decorations and Festival of Lights. Chickasha is beautiful and becoming more so all the time. As you are preparing to celebrate Christmas, may I encourage you to not miss the true meaning of the season?
Christmas is more than a tree with presents underneath or the gathering of family and friends. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, who is the Savior of the world. As the angel told Joseph, ?You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.? To see the baby in the manger, and not see the shadow of the cross over it is to miss the meaning of Christmas altogether.
During these days preceding Christmas, may I also encourage you to read the story of Christmas anew from the Bible? As you open your Bible, you wil l find the account in the New Testament books of Matthew and Luke. It is important to know that each of these men were impressed by God to write their books to different audiences. Matthew was written to a Jewish audience, and Luke was written to Greeks ? or Gentiles. The first two chapters of Matthew are from the perspective of Joseph, and the first two chapters of Luke look through Mary?s experience. Each of the two accounts clearly reveal that the conception and birth of Jesus was not from human origin, but God.
The angel Gabriel told Mary that God was going to do something humanly impossible. A virgin would become the mother of the son of God. In our thinking, this is impossible! But as Gabriel also told Mary, ?Nothing is impossible with God.? Mary asked how this would be and the angel said,
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, so that the holy one born to you will be called the Son of God.?"
Christmas is literally God invading human history and becoming one of us.
Think of it, the Son of God limited himself to become a man so that we could relate to Him. Jesus was born into an impoverished family, not in to the halls of wealth or honor. He came as a helpless and tender baby approachable to all. God did the impossible with us in mind in order to tell us that there is nothing that He cannot do. The good news is that He still performs miracles today.
The Lord chose Mary because she was willing to believe God. After she heard the Word of the Lord she said, ?I am the Lord?s servant, may it be to me as you have said.? Mary not only said that she believed, but she adjusted her life because she believed. She was willing to allow God to redirect her life and live by faith. Please know that this was not an easy decision for her. She faced the real possibility that Joseph, who was pledged to marry her, would divorce her and she would be publically rejected. But, she put her life into God?s hands, and He took care of all the details. No matter what the problems, God performed miracles.
Do you believe that nothing is impossible for God today? He is still looking for people who will believe Him, and take Him at his Word. History truly is His Story, but He is still writing tomorrow?s history today.
This Christmas, celebrate Jesus? birth, but also allow it to challenge you to live by faith, believing that God can do anything.

Chickasha Community Gospel Singers celebrate 15th anniversary

The Pastor's Pen
For many years, I have enjoyed collecting funny stories, but I love telling them even more. I once read of a man that got on a train and gave the porter a large tip in advance. He asked the porter to wake him up and make sure he got off the train at the 3 AM stop as he had a business meeting that he must not miss. He also told the porter that he was a heavy sleeper, so it might be difficult to wake him. The porter promised and took the tip. The next morning the man woke to learn that he had missed his stop and his meeting he was mad. He found the porter and began to scream and yell at him. He told the porter that he would never work on another train again after the railroad learns of his incompetence. After the man stormed off, another train attendant who witnessed the tirade said to the porter, Wow, that was the angriest man I have ever seen. No, not really said the porter, You should have seen the guy I put off the train at 3 this morning.

The Pastor's Porch
One of the guys in our church, Darrell Glass from over in Cement, has a real good lookin’ team of Percheron draft horses and a beautiful carriage for them to pull around. Man these horses are HUGE!!! Another guy in our church also from Cement, Jean Chapman, raises miniature horses; little bitty boogers. They are cute as a bug but they’re only 34 inches tall or less. Can you imagine what would happen if you took one of Jean’s little horses and hooked it up to Darrell’s big old carriage??? Why that little horse couldn’t even untrack that carriage, let alone pull it around. How frustrated and tired that little horse would get tryin’ to do something that there’s no way he could do by himself.

Tooth fairy won't believe it
I heard a story of a little girl who went with her mother as she delivered meals to elderly shut-ins.
The little girl was fascinated by what she saw at each home and asked her mother a lot of questions about canes, crutches, walkers and wheelchairs. -
First Baptist to play host to August Night of Praise
First Baptist Church in Chickasha will play host to a night of music and praise at 6 p.m. Saturday in the church worship center.

Pastor's Porch: Jesus, come fix my phone
I live way out in the boonies west of Chickasha Lake and back North over in Caddo County.
The roads are not the best out there to say the least, but the county does make an effort to get them graded as soon as they can after a rain or snow fall.
The problem lies in that our phone lines are buried right on the edge of the road, and they ain’t burried very deep. -

The Pastor’s Porch: Let’s make a trade
Don't ya just Love to do a little horse tradin' once in a while. I do. I remember being a kid and tradin' marbles; and then I got into tradin' pocket knives. Then it got to where I would trade on just about anything; dogs, horses, guns, cars, guitars. You name it, and I'd trade for it. That is if I wanted it. I remember one time when I got my first car. It was a 1954 Mercury; white over maroon. Pretty snazzy car. I traded it to my cousin for a beautiful cherry sunburst Rickenbacker guitar. My daddy almost had a heart attack. Personally, I thought it was a great trade. My cousin even gave me a ride home in his new Mercury!!!
