The Express-Star endorses candidates in the following races to be decided on Tuesday.
U.S. House
Republican Tom Cole is an outstanding advocate for the people of Oklahoma’s 4th Congressional district and deserves another term.
Cole is politically savvy and votes to protect the best interests of his constituency.
Corporation Commission
Dana Murphy, an attorney, geologist and former corporation commission administrative law judge, has the experience needed to serve on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
Murphy is a fighter who will represent us well in regulating utilities and performing the other duties of the commission.
House District 47
Both candidates could likely serve as capable replacements to the retiring Susan Winchester, but our nod goes to Democrat Harold Jackson of Chickasha.
He is a businessman who loves his community and has long been a friend of education.
That passion will serve us well as the legislature looks for ways to better fund our state universities.
Grady County Sheriff
Republican Art Kell is our choice for Grady County Sheriff.
Kell is the man most capable of restoring the integrity and credibility to the office that was tarnished badly under the previous administration.
He has promised to make the sheriff’s office more accountable and accessible to the entire county and pledges to re-establish a co-operative atmosphere with other agencies in fighting crime in Grady County.
