Local students entertained by cast members of "Oklahoma!"

— Students and staff were treated to a performance of “Oklahoma!” by cast members of Oklahoma City’s  Lyric Theater.  History came alive as the actors portrayed Curly, Laurey, Aunt Eller, and Will Parker.  In an interactive performance students participated in the show.  There was a question and answer competition where students answered questions about Oklahoma history.

Curly opened the show with “Oh What a Beautiful Morning.” The cast then sang, "The  Surrey With a Fringe on Top", telling the story of the of Oklahoma territory.  Will Parker described the friction between the farmers and the ranchers and engaged the students in a friendly competition to see which side could give the best “YEEHAW" to demonstrate how farmers and ranchers had to coexist in early Oklahoma.

The GRAND finale was the singing of “Oklahoma” and the entire student body joined.  Grand Avenue Elementary would like to give a GRAND thank you to Devon Energy, Lyric Theatre, Sonic, Allied Arts, Arts Council, Kirkpatrick Foundation, Wilshire Charitable Foundation and the McGee Foundation for bringing this to our students at no charge.  It was a unique opportunity for students to experience live theater.
