CHICKASHA — Prather - Halstead

LaTosha Dawn Prather and Matthew Lloyd Halsted, along with their parents, are excited to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-elect graduated in 1999 from Chickasha High School.

She attended Oklahoma State University where she graduated in 2004 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Family Relations and Child Development.

She is currently a Student Life Counselor for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

She is the daughter of Richard and Brenda Prather of Chickasha and the granddaughter of Noble Prather and the late Dortha Prather of Chickasha, Elbert and Lavern Bottoms of Chickasha, and the late Darlene Bottoms of Chickasha.

The prospective bridegroom graduated in 2002 as a homeschool graduate. After graduating from high school, he attended Rose State University where he earned his Associates Degree in International Studies.

He is employed with Kimray in Oklahoma City and plans to graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma next spring with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.

He is the son of Stephen and Melinda Halsted of McLoud, Oklahoma and Jeanette Keller of Chattahoochee, Florida.

He is the grandson of Lloyd and Wilene Halsted of Mountain View, Oklahoma and Laquita Collier and the late Roy Collier of Oklahoma City.

The wedding ceremony will be held at Sharon Baptist Church in Chickasha, on July 1st at 2 p.m., with a reception to immediately follow.

All friends and family are welcome to attend.

After a honeymoon in Cozumel, the couple will reside in Chickasha.



Turner - Powell

Dennis and Cindy Turner, of Amber are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Tosha Marie, to Perry Albert Powell, son of Bill and Claudia Powell, of Sapulpa.

The bride elect is the granddaughter of Kenneth and Myra Campbell, of Chickasha, and J.C. and Eufaula Turner, of Amber.

Tosha graduated from Amber-Pocasset High School in 2004.

She currently attends Oklahoma State University where she majors in Agricultural Communications.

After receiving her degree, Tosha plans to be an event planner of an Agricultural publication.

The groom elect is the grandson of Claude and Bernice Palmer, of Okemah, and Lucy Powell, of Sapulpa and the Late Jesse Powell.

Perry graduated from Sapulpa High School in 2003.

He attends Oklahoma State University majoring in electrical engineering.

After receiving his degree, Perry plans to pursue an advance degree.

Tosha and Perry will exchange vows August 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Pocasset.

The couple opens this invitation to all family and friends to join them on their special day.

After a short honeymoon to New Mexico, the couple will reside in Stillwater to pursue their degrees.

    Gene Watson, the country music legend with 21 top 10 songs, will return to the Chickasha High School Activity Center for a 7:30 p.m. show Oct. 9.
    This will be Watson’s fourth consecutive year to perform at Chickasha High School, having played there every year since the facility opened in 2007.

  • Art classes offered at Epworth Methodist

    Elizabeth Johnson, local Chickasha artist and teacher, has announced that she will be offering art classes for kids and adults this fall.
    All classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 4th and Iowa, Chickasha.

  • Butler announces AT&T retirement

    After 44 years of service, Jerry Butler has announced his retirement from AT&T
    Butler began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone now AT&T in June of 1966.
    His first job assignment was in Alva, Okla., as a Lineman.
    In November he transferred to Chickasha where he continued as a Lineman until June of 1970.

  • Country music legend Gene Watson plans another appearance in Chickasha

    Gene Watson, the country music legend with 21 top 10 songs, will return to the Chickasha High School Activity Center for a 7:30 p.m. show Oct. 9.
    This will be Watson’s fourth consecutive year to perform at Chickasha High School, having played there every year since the facility opened in 2007.

    CHICKASHA, Okla. –Members of Grady County’s Oklahoma Home and Community Education organization met recently in Oklahoma City for the group’s 75th annual state meeting. This year’s theme was “Dreams to Diamonds,” which reflected that the group was observing its 75th birthday.

  • Ninnekah community set to host summer blood drive

    Blood donors will receive two tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo and a “Feel Wild” T-shirt when they give blood with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) this summer. First Baptist Church is hosting a blood drive 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 18 at the High School Cafeteria, 901 S. Maple.
