Friend group enjoys picnic

Friend OHCE enjoyed a picnic lunch June 17 at New Life Christian Church. President Sue Gilliam called the meeting to order. “God Bless America” was sung by all and the flag salute was recited.

Roll call was answered by 11 members. The question asked was, “Have you talked to your legislator lately?”

Discussion was made concerning the quilt basket the Grady County OHCE will be donating to the silent auction at the state meeting.

Marge McLaughlin and Barbara Elliott will purchase items.

Committee reports: Family: Lynita Nelson reported she had a new granddaughter born early that morning.

Health: Zola Porter encouraged avoiding soda pop due to the high acid content. She said giggling was good for your health.

Cultural Enrichment: Pam Thomason reported on their family trip to Tennessee, Smoky Mountains, Stone Mountain and Charleston. Forty four books were read.

Military: Sue Gilliam will put a box for cell phone donations at Dunn’s.

Scholarships were given to Keith Thomason, Kristin Brown and Katie Osborn. Leslie Osborn spoke on things that got done at the legislature this session.
