Campaign Scrapbook

One of the treasures received by the Grady County Museum from the late Mary H. Bailey Estate was her Father’s record of his unsuccessful campaign for Governor of the State of Oklahoma in 1930.

Judge Frank Bailey arrived in Chickasha from Mississippi prior to statehood and served as Chickasha City Attorney from 1903-1904, District Judge from 1907 to 1915, and President of the Oklahoma State Bar Association in 1917.

From 1919 to 1921, Judge Bailey was a Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

Judge Bailey was active in civic and business affairs, serving as Director of the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce for 10 years, Governor of Kiwanis Clubs Oklahoma-Texas District in 1926, and operating a private law practice for many years.

On display are the oversize scrapbook and two file cases. The scrapbook contains newspaper articles from most of the newspapers from across Oklahoma.

A listing of these newspapers is including in the front of the book. The condition of the scrapbook is poor and the GCHS will be having the scrapbook photographed so that it may be shared.

The two file cases contain all of the letters, flyers, and expense accounts for the campaign.

Due to the condition of the items, visitors may only view the pages on top but these will be changed every week for the next month.

Shown with the collection is Museum Docent, Gaye Goss. Docents and volunteers are the backbone of the Museum. Join Gaye and the others by serving weekly, twice a month, or monthly for 2.5 hours at a time. Contact Pat Cunningham if you are interested in serving.
