Magic show set for Thursday
Oklahoma native Rob Lake will bring his “Night of Magic” to the Chickasha High School auditorium on Aug. 19 to benefit Grady County Crimestoppers, which offers cash rewards for information that can help solve crimes in our area.
Two years ago, at age 25, Lake became the youngest person ever to win the coveted Merlin award for “Magician of the Year” by the International Society of Magicians.
His accomplishments include a record setting four-month tour of Japan, televisions specials, and performances for Disney Cruise Lines, and numerous theatres and casinos across the country.
This award-winning production is a family show appropriate for all ages.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m Chickasha performance are set to go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. Ticket prices are only $15, with limited VIP seating for $20, and are available by calling OKMusicShow at (405) 243-7252.
Bridge Creek plans festival
Bridge Creek will play host it’s first Summer Fun Festival on Aug. 21. The Summer Fun Fest will start at 9 a.m. with a parade and will feature a homemade salsa contest, vendor booths, food booths, car show, Little Miss Bridge Creek Contest, entertainment, inflatables, a rock climbing wall and bunge jumping. Raffle tickets will be sold for an autographed pennant and fun pack of our 2010 Oklahoma City Thunder, an autographed photo from the famous Harlem Globe Trotters, NFL Buffalo Bills Fred Jackson autographed photo, Buffalo Bills Brian Moorman autographed photo and shirt among other items.
Booth space is still available . Vendor Food Booths are $100, booths without electricity are $30 and booths with electricity are $40.

All proceeds will go toward the purchase and development of land for Bridge Creek Little League.
Bereavement luncheons on tap
LifeLine Hospice will be hosting a Bereavement Luncheons in the LifeLine Home Health and Hospice Conference Room at noon Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, and Nov. 19. For information, please call 405-222-2051.
Leadership group taking apps
Leadership Chickasha, an educational, issues-oriented community leadership program will be taking applications in August and accepting nominations for the class scheduled to begin in October 2010. Applications will be available online or at the Chamber office in August.
Class size will be limited to 25.
Class participants will be exposed to the social and environmental complexities of the city, county and state. In addition to
learning about the opportunities, needs and resources that exist in the Chickasha area, class members will also be trained
in a variety of lifelong skills such as Negotiation and Mediation; Public Speaking; Dealing with the Media; Business Etiquette; and Stress Management.
This class will be the 12th group through the program since Leadership Chickasha graduated the first class in the 1980’s.
Many of the Leadership Chickasha alumni have taken prominent roles in state and local leadership. Parties devote one Thursday per month for seven months for the interactive seminars that encompass the following:
• Understanding city, county and state government
• Communication skills
• Public Speaking and Presentation Skills
• Dealing with Media
• Stress Management
Tuition is $300 per person and payment arrangements can be made.
Main Street offers history walk
The Main Street Association will present History Walks beginning at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.
Guided tours through a few of downtown Chickasha’s most historic buildings, including Washita Theatre, The Dixie, Petroleum Building, and the First National Bank. Ending with a reception at the Rock Island Depot.
The tour will include live music in the pocket park and a stop at the Liberty Drug Store for a coke.
Tickets will be free but required. Tickets will be available at the Chamber of Commerce, 221 Chickasha Ave. in August.
