A Chickasha woman drown last weekend in the Washita River.
Carol Potter, 52, separated from a group of people about five miles east of Chickasha on Cottonwood Road, Grady County Sheriff Art Kell said.
Fishermen down river reportedly noticed a woman floating face-down who was stuck in a wood drift. They pulled her out and called 911.
Grady County Sheriff deputies, Ninnekah Police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the call and officers attempts to revive the woman were unsuccessful.
“People need to be aware of swimming in the river, because there are currents you’re not aware of until you’re in trouble,” Kell said.
