Area schools announce enrollment
Chickasha Public Schools
Pre-K- 5th Grade:
EVERY STUDENT NEEDS TO ENROLL on July 30th (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) at the Activity Center, 201 John P. Cowan Drive. Pre - K and new students to the district need to bring: student's birth certificate, social security number, proof of residence (i.e. a utility bill in your name with current address).
6th - 8th Grade:
If your child will be NEW TO THE DISTRICT in grades 6-8 they will enroll at the
Chickasha Middle School, 1000 South 9th, beginning July 27, (8:00 - 4:00). You will need to bring: student’s birth certificate, social security number, proof of residence (i.e. a utility bill in your name with current address).
9th - 12th Grade
If your child will be NEW TO THE DISTRICT in grades 9-12, enrollment will be July 30th (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) at the Activity Center, 201 John P. Cowan Drive. Alex Public Schools
Pre-K - 5th Grade: July 31, 2009, 4 - 7 p. m... in the elementary bldg.

11th Grade: Aug. 3, 2009, 9-11 a.m.
10th Grade: Aug. 3. 2009, 1-3 p.m.
9th Grade: Aug. 4, 2009, 9-11 a.m.
8th Grade: Aug. 4, 2009, 1-3 p.m.
7th Grade: Aug. 5, 2009, 9-11 a.m.
6th Grade: Aug. 5, 2009, 1-3 p.m.
All new students must report to the high school office on enrollment date.
Classes begin Aug. 12, 2009.
NINNEKAH SCHOOLS
Elementary School, July 29, 9 a.m. - 2 p. m. ; July 30, 1-7 p.m.
Junior High and High School enrollment, July 30, 1-7pm
All students must enroll. Pre-Kindergarten and all new students must bring original birth certificate, up-to-date immunization (shot) record and social security card. New students also need to bring the address of their last school attended.
Middleberg school
The first day of school for Middleberg students will be August 12th. First bell is at 8:20 a. m. and classes begin at 8:25 a. m.. School will be dismissed and busses will run at 3:10 p. m. this year.
Enrollment will be held from 8:30 a. m. until 3:00 p. m. from Monday, August 3rd through Thursday, August 6th for all students. On Monday, the 3rd, there will be an additional evening enrollment period from 4:00 p. m. – 8:00 p. m. . Students new to the district will need to bring an official birth certificate, social security number, shot records and proof of residency.
Monday night, August 10th from 6:00 p. m. – 8:00 p. m. will be our Open House and Meet Your Teacher Night for all students and parents. Meet the teachers and staff, bring your supplies, find your lockers, and come join us in celebrating the beginning of Middleberg Public School’s 100th year.
School supply lists are posted in area stores and available in the school offices.
BLANCHARD SCHOOL
The first day of classes for Blanchard School is Thursday, August 13, 2009, with the first bell at 8:10 a.m. for secondary and 8:20 a.m. for elementary. The following information may be helpful in preparing for school.
ENROLLMENT FOR NEW STUDENTS: Enrollment for students NEW to the Blanchard School District will be Tuesday, August 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Elementary Office, Intermediate Library, Middle School Counselor’s Office and the High School Counselor’s Office.
High School includes students 10th through 12th grades; Middle School include 6th through 9th grade; Intermediate includes 4th and 5th grades; and Elementary is for pre-kindergarten through 3rd grades. Parents need to provide a copy of each child's official birth certificate, child's social security number, up-to-date shot records and proof of residence. Acceptable proof of residence can be a copy of a utility bill such as gas or electric, residential rent agreement or legal description of property. The district’s Residence Officer, Superintendent Dr. Jim Beckham, will make residence determinations. This enrollment is only for the students who did not attend Blanchard School last year.

MEET YOUR TEACHER: Blanchard Elementary, Intermediate School, Middle School, and High School would like to invite Blanchard students and their parents to meet with your teacher(s) on Tuesday, 11, 2009. Intermediate, Middle School, and High School will be held from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Elementary pre-kindergarten-3 grades will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
BLANCHARD STUDENTS PICKING UP CLASS SCHEDULES: Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle School class assignments will be given to parents at each sites office during Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, August 11. Elementary time will be at 6:00 p.m. Intermediate and Middle School time will be at 5:30 p.m. High school students, who are returning from last year, may pick up their schedules on August 6th or 7th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Friend School
Friend School has set enrollment for Wednesday, Aug. 5, 9 a. m. . - 4 p. m. All students who will attend Friend School for the 2009-10 school year must enroll. Transfer students must have transfers on file or present transfers on this date in order to enroll. Any Pre-K student who pre-enrolled should attend this enrollment. Pre-K students must have attained the age of four years by Sept. 1, 2009. All new students must present birth certificate from the state in which they were born and an updated shot record. Back to school night will be held at the Friend School gym on Monday, Aug. 10 at 6:30 p. m. Mr. Rawlins, the new superintendent, will inform those attending about handbook policies, general school conduct and rules.
Pioneer School
Pioneer School enrollment will be Friday, August 7th, from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. All students must enroll. New students must have: birth certificate, updated immunization record, social security number, and the mailing address of the previous school attended. Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 12th, at 8:30 a.m.
Verden Schools
Verden Elementary and Verden High School enrollment dates are scheduled for August 5- 7 2009; between the hours of 9 a.m. ~ 1 p.m.. Each new student is required to bring birth certificate, social security card, and their shot records. The school will send for the child/children records. Duncan nips Chicks for straight-game win
Duncan got their eighth match win of the season Tuesday, beating Nancy Waters’ Lady Chicks in straight games at the Activity Center.
The Chicks looked like they had a little hangover from Monday night’s tough road loss at Tecumseh, coming out flat again and dropping their first two games by identical 25-17 scores.
They came out firing on all eight cylinders for game three, running out to a 15-9 lead on the strength of a 7-0 run with Shelby Crosley serving, but the Demons battled back to tie it late and the Chicks let it slip away, 25-21. -

NORMAN (AP) — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has named walk-on Patrick O'Hara as the starting place-kicker for the seventh-ranked Sooners.
Stoops said on his radio show Tuesday night that O'Hara won the competition with Jimmy Stevens, freshman Michael Hunnicutt and redshirt freshman Bryce Easley. -
OSU's Gundy still learning on job
STILLWATER (AP) — Mike Gundy hasn't lost his love for dialing up the right play to keep Oklahoma State's offense purring along.
That passion, which he has called the most enjoyable part of his job as head coach, was bred into him as an offensive coordinator. And he is a former starting quarterback for the Cowboys. -
Whimsical metal work, jewelry part of big art show at USAO
A showing of whimsical metal work and jewelry is scheduled to be on display at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma during Helen’s Show Sept. 10-Oct 1.
The show will feature the work of USAO graduate Helen Shafer. The exhibition will be open daily during normal business hours in the Davis Hall Third Floor Art Gallery on the USAO campus. The show is free and open to the public. An opening reception is scheduled Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. in the gallery. -
High-speed chase lands 1 in jail
A high-speed motorcycle chase down Highway 81 last Wednesday landed a Ninnekah man in jail and a felony charge of eluding a police officer.
Court records show that James William Hutchins, 21, blew by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Timothy Parrish at U.S. Highway 81 and County Road 1460 and was clocked going 144 miles per hour in a posted 70 miles per hour zone.
Parrish reported that he was sitting stationary at that location at about 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 25 when he observed a red motorcycle traveling southbound. He engaged his emergency lights and siren and pulled onto the roadway behind the Triumph motorcycle. -
5 inmates denied parole
Parole was recently denied for five Grady County inmates serving sentences with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
The following individuals were denied at the August Pardon and Parole Board meeting:
• Jeremiah Daniel Cline, who is serving a five-year sentence for distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and a five-year sentence for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, began his sentence in August 2008.
• Warren P. Diego, who is serving a 15-year sentence (10 years PTS) for lewd molestation, began his sentence in February 2009. -
Judge recuses herself from pharmacy case
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state district judge has stepped aside from the first-degree murder trial of a pharmacist accused in the fatal shooting of an unconscious would-be robber.
