Dealing with the loss of a beloved soldier

Local family remembers a fallen son-in-law

A Chickasha couple is dealing with the death of their son-in-lawwho died on active duty in Afghanistan.

Specialist First Class Dennis Pratt, 34, of Duncan was one of four soldiers who was killed July 20 when the Humvee in which they were riding was struck by rocket-propelled grenades.

His in-laws Fred and Margaret Bryant live in Chickasha.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Frontier Chapel, Fort Sill, Oklahoma with Chaplain (Capt.) Namen Bouma, officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston.

Pratt was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division Light Infantry of Ft. Drum, New York.

Pratt joined the U. S. Army while living in Texas and completed basic training at Ft. Sill, after which he was stationed at Ft. Drum. He was deployed to Afghanistan on Jan. 6, 2009.

Pratt leaves behind his wife Michelle and children Collin Kessler, Gabrielle Pratt and Caden Bryant. He is the son of Jim and Sinammon Pratt of Duncan and the late Lori Pratt.

Born and raised in Connecticutt Jan. 7, 1975, Pratt graduated from high school in Southington, Conn.

Funeral services for Pratt will be held Friday, July 31 in the Frontier Chapel at Ft. Sill with interment following in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin.
