our senior centers

To the Editor:

I am a senior citizen in Minco. I have been going to our Senior Center for about 12 years.

It is an important place and part of our community. It is a place where people can come and have a good meal, play cards and games and fellowship with others. Also, we deliver hot meals to the homebound (and) see to the health and well-being of our senior citizens.

It was one of the few places my husband could go after his illness. After he passed away, I became a volunteer.

I am now a board member because I want to make a difference in our community. We are really struggling now because of the cuts to the state budget. We will lose almost one-third of our budget this year. We need your help!

Many think you are too young. All of you Baby Boomers are nearing the age when you will be a senior citizen.

We want this place to be here for you and your children and your grandchildren.

Please vote for the 1/8-cent sales tax on July 27. It will mean we can stay open to be here for the future senior citizens.

Yours truly,

Bert Brown, Treasurer

Minco Senior Citizen

High five from

the ‘Baptist Guy’

To the Editor:

The "Baptist Guy" would like to take this opportunity to thank Father Jim Goins of Holy Name Catholic Church for his involvement in our community.

Father Goins has become an inspiration and contributing addition to Chickasha since his arrival. Participation in church has dramatically increased, and the improvement of the church property is dramatic.

I will miss my social visits with Father Goins, whether it be at a civic function, school function, or on a walk through my neighborhood; he always took the time to stop and talk just to see what was on my mind.

The positive impact he has made on the City of Chickasha is noteworthy.

I just wanted to say "Thank You, Father Jim." We'll miss you.
