CHICKASHA —
An early morning single-car accident sent two Chickasha residents to an Oklahoma City hospital.
Lloyd T. Smith, 25, Chickasha, was driving a 2008 Chevy Cobalt west bound on Country Road 1280 when he departed the roadway to the left and struck a utility pole. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol also reported that the vehicle rolled three times.
Janice J. Sledge, 23, Chickasha, was a passenger in the vehicle.
Smith was taken to OU Medical Center by Medi-flight and was admitted with head, external and internal trunk, arm and leg injuries. The OHP report said Smith is listed in fair condition.
Sledge was transported to OU Medical Center by Tuttle EMS. She was treated and released with head and internal trunk injuries.
The accident occurred Tuesday morning at about 6 a.m. on County Road 1280, eight-tenths of a mile east of County Street 2850 in Grady County.
An odor of alcohol was detected on the driver, the OHP report stated. In addition, speed could have also contributed to the cause of the collision.
Airbags did not deploy, but both occupants were using seatbelts.
