Commissioners continue to discuss safe rooms

GRADY COUNTY — Safe rooms could be dotting Grady County by Spring 2013.

Progress continues on the Safe Room Project in preparation for the meeting on Dec. 6, Dale Thompson, Grady County Emergency Management Director, reported at the Grady County Commissioner's regular meeting.

The Safe Room Project Meeting will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6. There will be two separate meeting times: 12 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m in the Community Room at the Grady County Fairgrounds. Awardees only need to attend one meeting.

Award packets will be distributed at the meeting. The guidelines for the safe rooms will be discussed.

Thompson, said that there are people who are ready to build their safe rooms as soon as they receive their packets and weather permits.

Thompson said there were a few grassfires. Paulette Nicholas, Grady County Emergency Management Deputy, said that one was a control burn that got out of control, twice.

Thompson said that it was near the end of the winter fire season. Unless more control burns get out of control, he said there was no need for a burn ban at this time. However, the lack of rainfall for the next ten days was not a good sign.

The Grady County Fire Department will be having their annual Christmas party at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Grady County Fairgrounds.

In other business:

•    The payment request for the 2011 REAP Grant for RWD#2 was approved.

•    Sue Adams was appointed for a five year tearoom as representative from the Alex Fire Station to the Grady County Fire Department Board.

•    Blanket purchase order numbers 131653 to 131725 were approved.
