ODOT releases information on winter weather

GRADY COUNTY — Crews throughout the western and central portions of the state are monitoring road conditions as winter weather is anticipated to move into the state overnight.  Additional crews are on standby and should precipitation begin, they are prepared to apply sand and salt to bridges and roadways as needed.

Motorists should stay cautious as temperatures are expected to decrease overnight. Morning commuters should plan for additional travel time and be alert for possible slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.



During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists are asked to:

·        Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.

·        Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can  engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.

·        Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
