County fire departments to receive equipment, court house protection

After appropriating requested funds for more than a dozen Grady County entities, including the County Highway, County Sales Tax, SWB 911 fees, Drug Court user fees and WIC, the board took action on items tabled at last week’s meeting.

First, they requested bids for tanker trucks for the Pocasset and Bradley Fire Departments as part of a FEMA grant, and also for the panic alarm system intended for use in Grady County Court House offices.

After the original panic alarm system bids were higher than expected, Grady County Sheriff Kieran McMullen worked with the supplier to modify the requirements for the system, bringing the price down. McMullen said that, although the cost of the system exceeds the grant amount by a few hundred dollars, the difference can be made up.

Next, the board voted to accept a bid for ballistic blankets for the Grady County Courthouse judge’s benches. Nardis, Inc. of Kilgore, Texas was the winning bidder, with a bid of $12,450.

Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson told the board he had looked at the state contract price for a one-ton truck for the Harold Fire Department.

He reported that a Chevrolet truck with cab and chassis but no bed, with a five-year, 100,000-mile warranty sells for $20,897.

Commissioners voted to split the cost of the truck between all three districts, with each district contributing $7,000.

“We’ll deal with outfitting it later,” said District No. 2 Commissioner Mike Lennier.

Bidding procedures are not required when purchasing from a state contract.

Also on the agenda was a memorandum of agreement between the state of Oklahoma and Grady County District No. 2 for the Washita River bridge at Verden. The board approved the agreement, pending approval from the district attorney.

In addition, the board approved the appointment of former Tuttle mayor Lonnie Paxton to replace Jim Arganbright on the Grady County Hospital Board, with a term running through February, 2012; commissioners tabled a stack of six-month bids for commonly used items for all three districts; and they approved a Map Endorsement Agreement with Liberty Marketing, who will provide 2,000 city/county maps at no cost to the county.

Sherri Kell attended the meeting as part of the Leadership Chickasha Class for the Chamber of Commerce.
