“I am here early because I’m serious about running for sheriff. By being prompt, my leadership by example will reflect what I expect out of the Sheriff’s office.” said Sheriff’s candidate Art Kell, who arrived first to apply for office.
Guy Huggins also arrived early to file for sheriff. Incumbent, Sheriff Kieran McMullan filled Monday as well. Later in the day, sheriff candidates Roy Reynolds and Austin Green also filed. The deadline for filling is not until Wednesday.
Incumbent Sharon Shoemake said, “I’ve done this every four years since 1996 and to this day I can’t sleep the night before. So I’ve always got here first thing.”
County Commissioner Mike Lennier, and Court Clerk Lois Foster, also both incumbents, waited eagerly to file as well. The general election is set for July 29.
