Chicks play well, but fall again

Chuck Larsen

Tuesday’s road trip to No. 15 Deer Creek was what Chick volleyball coach Nancy Waters called “same song, second verse.”

Actually, maybe third or fourth or fifth verse. The Ladies played well against a ranked team again but lost in straight games to go to 5-17.

They battled hard in game one but after Deer Creek pulled away for a 25-21 win, they came back out for game two “with their heads down” and lost 21-16. Again, though, they bounced back in game three and took the Antlers to the wire, dropping the game 25-23.

The team played well. Julie Firebaugh had a solid match with seven kills, four blocks and an ace and Hunter Fleetwood added three kills and another block.

Kayla Brosius also had a good outing, finishing with four kills, three aces and five digs.

In the back, Taycee Seibold had sixteen digs, Cassandra Filip had ten assists and four aces and Elizabeth Hannah had two aces and two digs.

The JV didn’t fare much better, literally giving away the rubber game for a loss. After dropping game one 25-21, the young Chicks rolled 25-16 in game two to even things up and force the fifteen-point rubber game.

They continued to play well, opening up a 13-8 lead, but two points shy of a win, they gave up a 7-point run for a DC win.

Hailey Angel led the Chick effort with eleven assists, Dawn’Shaye Blakes had three kills, Dana Rose had two and Brittney Howe had one.

On deck is Senior Night Thursday at the Activity Center with El Reno coming into town.
