District Judge Richard Van Dyck has sentenced a Caddo County woman to10 years after she entered a blind plea to allowing a co-defendant to blow marijuana smoke into the mouth of her seven-year-old handicapped son.
Van Dyck ordered that Caroline Marie Beavers of Anadarko be incarcerated for three years, followed by seven years probation.
The district attorney’s office had recommended a sentence of 15 years with a at least six served in prison.
Beavers had been charged with enabling child abuse a year ago after it was discovered that she had allowed Brandi Hugar to blow the smoke into the mouth boys mouth.
This act of child abuse was caught on a video camera by others present planned on putting the video on a “My Space” page. This crime was discovered when Beavers’ computer was repossessed by a rental company and was turned over to law enforcement.
“This crime was really disturbing because this mother sat by and watched as her handicap child was abused. She failed to protect her child and now must pay the consequences, said District Attorney Bret Burns.
