Area seniors receive USAO scholarships

Several local high school seniors recently joined an exclusive group of students from across the state chosen to receive scholarships and attend the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma this fall in Chickasha.

The university awarded multiple types of scholarships, from academic to art talent and from athletic to music, to high school seniors throughout Oklahoma.

Nancy Moats, director of financial aid, said this year’s scholarship recipients display high levels of academic and leadership skills.

“It is always exciting to see so much potential in a new freshman class,” she said. “The academic level of the students we are recruiting this year has increased significantly.”

Most of the recipients took advantage of their scholarships by enrolling early in April and May. Fall enrollment for first-time freshmen typically begins in late summer. In addition, recipients can enroll throughout the summer. USAO’s fall term begins Aug. 24.

Ranked for the second time at the top of the exclusive “Great Schools, Great Prices” list in U.S.News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges guide, USAO holds onto its No. 1 spot among all baccalaureate colleges in the western United States. USAO is ranked No. 1 on the “best buys” list for both academic quality and reasonable cost, according to the magazine’s website.
