New principal lives dream, returns to Chickasha

Danny Turner is coming home.

After 12 years with Bridge Creek Schools and four years with Guymon Schools, Turner is returning to his home town as the principal of Chickasha Middle School.

Turner is a 1987 graduate of Chickasha High School and a 1992 graduate of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. He spent 12 years with Bridge Creek Schools, working as head football coach for eight years and as athletic director and baseball coach for six years.

He returned to school and earned a master’s degree at Southern Nazarene University and then applied for a position as assistant principal and athletic director at Guymon High School.

He got the job and stayed in Guymon four years.

Turner heard it through the grapevine that the principal’s job at Chickasha Middle School was open. Getting the job was a dream, he said.

“We’ll be moving back to Chickasha next week,” Turner said. “This is a dream come true for me to have my kids get to graduate from the same school I did.”

Reluctant to move at first, Turner’s son Braxdan, a sophomore, is a “big kid” as well as a football player, and is now excited about the move.

Turner and his wife Lisa also have a daughter, Caitlin, who is a seventh grader.

While Turner said it was too early to know what his goals for his new position will be, he said consistency is the key to success.

“My philosophy is to stay consistent,” he said. “That’s the key whether you’re dealing with discipline, staff or dealing with the community. I think that will get us a long way. I know in any part of management, whether you’re dealing with kids or grown-ups, as long as you’re consistent, you’ll be successful.”

Turner is the son of Danny and Barbara Turner, who own and operate Hwy 92 Storage in Chickasha.

“Mom is a beauty operator with a shop in her house and Dad and my brother Mike do a lot of carpentry and cabinet work in Bridge Creek,” Turner said.
