Chickasha police officers arrested a local man Monday on charges of vandalism and burglary in the second degree after an incident at a downtown car wash.
Chickasha resident Jerry Vasquez, 22, was spotted by law enforcement officials at Triple L car wash on 2220 4th Street, according to police reports.
When police returned to the business, the suspect and his car had left the scene and a coin changer had been broken.
Police officer Clifford Walker said the coin changer looked as though it had been opened with a prying device. He then took photographs of the coin changer and fingerprinted it.
Vasquez was detained after Walker returned to the scene at 12:24 a.m. and again saw the suspect near the coin changer, according to the report. Fingerprint powder was discovered on his hands and various tools were found in the back seat of the car, including a pry bar.
The suspect also told Walker the reason for the black fingerprinting dust on his hands was that he was changing a flat tire. However, Walker found the intact spare tire in the trunk of the car, the report states.
Walker said after Vasquez was detained and held in the patrol unit, he attempted to push out the back window using his head, causing the window to bow out and be pushed off its track.
The car, which belonged to Vasquez’s girlfriend, was impounded at Chickasha Police Station No. 1.
and Vasquez was booked at Grady County Jail.
