CHICKASHA (AP) — Grady County prosecutors have formally charged a man who allegedly led law enforcement officers on a chase while his baby was in the vehicle.
Stephen Tennery was charged Monday with child abuse, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, eluding a police officer and placing bodily fluid on a government employee, among other counts.
Tennery was scheduled for arraignment, but was returned to jail after he reportedly spat on court papers inside the courtroom and beligerent outside the courtroom.
Chickasha police say they were trying to check on Tennery and his 9-month-old child when he eluded them on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike last week.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers pursued the truck, which eventually exited onto a Grady County road and crashed.
Troopers found Tennery with the baby. The child wasn't seriously injured.
