Livestock show a family affair for Seibolds

After his bath, a haircut, a blow dry and a leg fluff, Wild Child is ready for the show ring.

Wild Child, a Suffolk sheep, is the pride of Callie Seibold, 14, of Ninnekah, who is showing him at the Grady County Junior Livestock Show at the Grady County Fairgrounds.

The daughter of Michelle and Dale Seibold, Callie has been showing sheep for the last two years. She even won Breed Champion Hamp at the 2009 Grady County Junior Stock Show.

Seibold, a member of 4-H and Ninnekah FFA, also shows pigs and is a rodeo rider.

Usually a perfect gentleman while being groomed, Wild Child is not always been so well behaved.

“He kicked a lot when we first got him, he was quite a mess,” says Michelle. “He has lived up to his name.”

Living on a farm between Ninnekah and Cement, Callie and her older brother Brody, a 2008 Ninnekah graduate, have spent years showing and riding animals.

“It’s kind of a family thing,” says Michelle, whose cousin Dusty Moser was busy grooming Wild Child for the evening’s show. “It gives the whole family something to do together.”

Riding competitively since she was 5 years old, Callie competes in barrel racing, pole bending and breakaway roping, winning buckles in barrel racing and pole bending. She hopes to attend college someday on a rodeo scholarship.

“She hasn’t won a saddle yet, but we’re working on it,” Michelle said.

Callie currently owns and trains six horses, one she rides for barrel racing, another for pole bending and four younger horses as well.
