A Tuesday afternoon fire destroyed part of the Helm family residence in rural Alex, leaving three boys with virtually nothing but what they were wearing to school that day.
The three brothers who are still at home – Alex, Travis and Austin – had been living in a converted out-building on the property, while their mom, Terry, and their sisters were occupying the trailer home.
Apparently, a space heater was accidently left on when the boys went to school, causing the blaze, and the building was a total loss.
An emergency account has been set up at First National Bank of Alex in their name for donations to help the family through the crisis.
If you have any questions or would like further information on how to help, please call Coach Erik Yeiser at Alex High School (405-785-2222).
