Women from all walks of faith around the area gathered Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Epworth United Methodist Church for the monthly "Something Worthwhile" inspirational evening.
Participants enjoyed a home-cooked meal served to their tables, a delightful musical program by Allison and Alyssa Yates and an inspiring message from Congresswoman Mary Fallin.
Epworth UMC and the "Something Worthwhile" ministries does not endorse any political candidates or political party. Fallin and her husband, Wade Christensen, are members of Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City.
She told the group that one of the greatest lessons she has learned in life is that she is not in control.
"I didn't grow up famous or wealthy. I come from an ordinary Oklahoma family. I've had to face things I didn't anticipate like being a single mom. But, I'm not in control. I have to put my faith in God to get through the tough times," she said. "It has not been an easy walk for me."
Fallin mentioned a message she heard from a minister that said, in part, that a person can either be pitiful or powerful.
"I choose to be powerful," she said. "Everybody has challenges in life. Walk through life with God and prayer and you can do anything in life. We don't have to settle. We have a God who is in the business of restoration and forgiveness. We have a God who is in the business of answering prayers."
Fallin, referring to Peter asking Jesus to call him out of the boat and to walk on the water with him, said, "People go through life and are scared to try things. If you want to walk on water, get out of the boat. By faith, get out of the boat.
"We all have different callings in our life. It is so fun to step up, walk by faith, and let God take you places you've never been before," she said.
