— Rotary makes park improvements



The Rotary Club of Chickasha recently made about $2,000 in improvements to Shannon Springs Park. Past-president Rocky Roberson and 2010-11 president Mark Tibbetts show off one of the two new barbeque grills purchased and installed at the city park by Rotary Club members. Club members also recently contributed dirt work and erected a rope enclosure around the park's beach volleyball court.

Tibbetts said other park improvement projects are planned by the club for the future.



Lions Club Golf Scramble

set for Saturday August 7



The Chickasha Lions Club announces the Tenth Annual Lions Golf Scramble at the Riverbend Golf Course on Saturday August 7. Teams register at 8 AM and tee off shortly after. Cost for each two-member team is $130 or $65 per player. Lunch is provided after the tournament. The First, Second, and Third Place teams will receive $500, $400, and $300 respectively.

Local businesses and individuals may sponsor a team for $100. Large advertising signs are placed strategically throughout the course for businesses and individuals who want to help sponsor the event.

All proceeds from the golf scramble are used to help fund the Chickasha "Food For Kids" program and provide generous assistance for area residents in need of eyeglasses. Checks can be made payable to the Chickasha Lions Club at P.O. Box 2, Chickasha, OK 73023.

Teams must register in advance. Contact any member of the Lions Club for more information or contact Ken Bohannon at 274-5476.

The motto of Lions Club International is "We Serve".



Arts Council meets Aug. 9



The Chickasha Area Arts Council will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at its offices, 502 W. Chickasha Ave.

This regularly-scheduled meeting will convene on the second floor. Attendees should enter the building from 5th Street.  

Major agenda items will include updates about:

• The CAAC Booth at the Grady County Fair

• Rose Hill Cemetery Tour on Sept. 18

• Rock Island Arts Festival 2010 (RIAF) on Oct. 1-2

• The Public Art Project for downtown Chickasha.

 All those interested in promoting the arts and activities of the CAAC are welcome to attend the monthly meetings of the Arts Council and the Rock Island Arts Festival Planning Committee. Fan giveaway for elderly, needy



First Assembly of God in Chickasha is giving out free box floor fans to the elderly and those in need on August 14th, at 10AM at the church, located at 3340 S 16th, Chickasha OK  73018

Please call 405-222-2686 to get your name on our list.  We have a limited amount of fans, so your name must be on our list and proof of residences and picture ID is needed.  We will also be able to deliver fans to those without transportation or handicapped.  Call for further details.



Magic Show to

benefit local Crimestoppers program



Oklahoma native Rob Lake will bring his “Night of Magic” to the Chickasha High School auditorium on Aug. 19 to benefit Grady County Crimestoppers, which offers cash rewards for information that can help solve crimes in our area.

Two years ago, at age 25, Lake became the youngest person ever to win the coveted Merlin award for “Magician of the Year” by the International Society of Magicians.

His accomplishments include a record setting four-month tour of Japan, televisions specials, and performances for Disney Cruise Lines, and numerous theatres and casinos across the country.

This award-winning production is a family show appropriate for all ages.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m Chickasha performance are set to go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. Ticket prices are only $15, with limited VIP seating for $20, and are available by calling OKMusicShow at (405) 243-7252.



Summer Fun Festival



Bridge Creek will play host it’s first Summer Fun Festival on Aug. 21.  

Booth space is still available . Vendor Food Booths are $100, booths without electricity are $30 and  booths with electricity are $40.

All proceeds will go toward the purchase and development of land for Bridge Creek Little League.



Bereavement Luncheons

LifeLine Hospice will be hosting a Bereavement Luncheons in the LifeLine Home Health and Hospice Conference Room at 12 p.m. on Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, and Nov. 19. For information, please call 405-222-2051.



Leadership Chickasha

Leadership Chickasha, an educational, issues-oriented community leadership program will be taking applications in August and accepting nominations for the class scheduled to begin in October 2010.  Applications will be available online or at the Chamber office in August.

Class size will be limited to 25.

Class participants will be exposed to the social and environmental complexities of the city, county and state.  In addition to

learning about the opportunities, needs and resources that exist in the Chickasha area, class members will also be trained

in a variety of lifelong skills such as Negotiation and Mediation; Public Speaking; Dealing with the Media; Business Etiquette; and Stress Management.   

This class will be the 12th group through the program since Leadership Chickasha graduated the first class in the 1980’s.  

Many of the Leadership Chickasha alumni have taken prominent roles in state and local  leadership.  Parties devote one Thursday per month for seven months for the interactive seminars that encompass the following:

• Understanding city, county and state government

• Communication skills  

• Public Speaking and Presentation Skills  

•  Dealing with Media

•  Stress Management    

•  Business etiquette

Tuition is $300 per person and payment arrangements can be made. Call the Chickasha Chamber for more information.



Main Street History Walk

The Main Street Association will present History Walks beginning at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.

Guided tours through a few of downtown Chickasha’s most historic buildings, including Washita Theatre, The Dixie, Petroleum Building, and the First National Bank. Ending with a reception at the Rock Island Depot.  

The tour will include live music in the pocket park and a stop at the Liberty Drug Store for a coke.  

Tickets will be free but required. Tickets will be available at the Chamber of Commerce, 221 Chickasha Ave. in August.
