Santa plans to make early stop in Blanchard

BLANCHARD — Santa Claus is coming early to the city of Blanchard. On Saturday afternoon people from all over the county will flock to Main Street to take part in this year's festivities, Executive Director of the Chamber Laura Callaham explained.

Attendees can look forward to live music on the street, as well as a Christmas caroling session with Blanchard Elementary School. Also at the Christmas celebration will be free popcorn and free hot chocolate.

Children will also have the opportunity to take free photos with Santa. Carnival type games will also be available free of charge to keep families entertained before the parade. Carriage rides will also be available.

This year, due to the Blanchard High School football team's success, there will also be a special honoring of the Lions. Last Friday night the Lions defeated the Kingfisher Yellow Jackets with a 28-21 win to take home the 3A state title championship.

After the pre-parade festivities are over, the main event will happen. Handmade floats, walkers, classic cars, tractors and horses will all be part of the parade. Free candy will be tossed off the floats for parade attendees.

Another aspect of this year's Blanchard Christmas Celebration and Parade is the conclusion of the seasonal Shop Blanchard program. Beginning back on the first day in November, the Chamber of Blanchard encouraged residents to save all their local receipts from anything from the local Sonic to a hardware store in town. At Saturday's Christmas Celebration all local receipts will be put into a large drawing for prizes. On the back of the receipt should be the customer's name and phone number.

"You have to be present in order to receive a prize," Callaham said. "We have encouraged all businesses in Blanchard to get involved."

Last year over $2,000 was given away in prizes, Callaham explained. This year attendees can look forward to gift cards and large gift baskets.

The Blanchard Christmas Celebration and Parade will start with festivities at 2 p.m. and the main parade will start at 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public and will take place on Main Street.
