OSU, Langston students arrested on robbery complaints

STILLWATER — An Oklahoma City family was robbed at gunpoint in rural Logan County Saturday night after answering a Craigslist ad for the sale of a vehicle, according to the OSBI.

On Wednesday, Logan County District Attorney Tom Lee filed felony robbery by force with imitation of firearm and conspiracy to commit a felony charges against Gabriel Davyion Barr, 23, of Oklahoma City, Rotesha Deshay Jackson, 19, of Spencer, and Sylvia Keontay Lee, 22, of Ardmore, in Logan County District Court.

No future court dates have been scheduled, according to the online court database.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said Lee and Jackson are students at Oklahoma State University while Barr is a student at Langston University. A misdemeanor assault and battery charge was filed against Lee on March 30 in Logan County District Court. At that time, Lee was not an enrolled student and could not be located on campus, according to court records.

Also on Wednesday, OSBI agents were serving search warrants on the suspects’ apartments and vehicle to collect evidence of the robbery, Brown said.

A metro man called a cell phone number listed on Craigslist for a Chevy pickup truck, Brown said. The seller asked the potential buyer to meet him at the Love’s Travel Stops off Interstate 35 at the Guthrie exit, Brown said.

When the victim, his wife and three young children arrived at the convenience store they could not find the vehicle which was supposed to be parked in the lot, Brown said.

The victim called the cell phone number again, Brown said. The seller indicated he could not meet at the store and he should drive to the seller’s home in rural Logan County, she said.

Brown said the victim drove to the location, which turned out to be a dead end street.

As he and his family sat in their vehicle waiting for the seller, two females and one male walked up to the vehicle, Brown said. The two females had handguns, Brown said.

One of the females went to the driver’s side of the vehicle and demanded the victim give her the $3,500 cash brought for the purchase of the truck, Brown said. The three suspects got away with the cash and no one was hurt, she said.

As the robbery was taking place, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who lived nearby noticed a suspicious abandoned vehicle parked on a rural road, Brown said.

The trooper watched the vehicle and waited, Brown said. Minutes later he saw three people, two females and one male get inside the car. The trooper stopped the car and questioned the three.

Without probable cause to keep them, he let them leave, Brown said.

The next day the trooper heard a bolo (be on the lookout) on two females and one male who had robbed a family about a half mile from where he had stopped the car, Brown said. The three people described in the bolo closely met the descriptions of the three he stopped, she said. The trooper had the license tag number to the vehicle and a bolo was released on the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a Logan County detective investigating the robbery found a similar listing on Craigslist, Brown said.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assistance in finding the suspects, Brown said.

“OSBI agents gathered phone records and employed other investigative tools to track down the threesome Tuesday night at a McDonald’s in the 900 Block of West Sixth in Stillwater,” Brown said.

As the suspects parked in the restaurant’s lot, an OSBI agent and several OSU officers arrested the three college students, Brown said.
