The Grady County Commissioners on Monday approved a request for water annexation by petitioners Rick Maloney and Marcy Koerner.
Attorney for the petitioners, Charles Park, said the annexation request does not include Caddo County as a previous petition did, and that the Water Resources Board has issued a permit for the annexation.
The area in question is in the northwest corner of Grady County, northwest of Minco.
No Objections Filed
Park also said while the proposed annexation does not supersede any individual’s water rights and no objections have been filed, two judicial challenges have been filed, but he believed they were filed after the legal filing date.
Paul Jones of Rural Water District No. 6 provided the board with a map of the area included in the petition to annex.
In other business, Grady County Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson informed the board that FEMA has approved a grant for the purchase of a generator for the EMS building.
Grant Purchase
The $26,742 generator, which will be purchased with a 75/25 grant (75 percent reimbursed and 25 percent county-match), is fully automatic and will kick on automatically when the power goes off.
“It will be a good asset for us,” Thompson said.
The county has three years to complete the generator project and the board recommended moving forward with the project next year at budget time.
Other Items
The board also approved:
• Thompson to attend the Hot Zone Conference in Houston in October.
• Grady County Treasurer Robin Burton to cash in CDs for $595,000 and $1 million for non-payables. “This is something I do every year and then I reinvest the funds after February or when taxes begin coming in,” Burton said.
• Renewal of the National Fire Protection Association membership and a five-year plan with Districts No. 2 and 3, providing in-kind work and $2,100 for each REAP grant project.
The board voted to table bids received for the sale or trade of a used tractor for District No. 2.
