Hampton Inn slated to open doors on Valentine's Day

CHICKASHA — After eight months of love and devotion from its construction crew, the Hampton Inn on Fourth St. is slated to open on Feb. 14.

"This community is in dire need of quality rental rooms," said Sheri Shifflet, general manager of The Hampton Inn. "The oil industry has hit a big boom and its brought a real need for rooms."

The hotel has received 180 reservations in the last week alone, said Shifflet.

"We expect to be running full very quickly," she said.

Director of the Chickasha Economic Development Corporation Christy Elkins said The Hampton Inn will free up some space for patrons of local events that otherwise have trouble finding close lodging due to the energy industry.

"Anytime you have a successful hotel chain, it enhances your community," she said.

Although The Hampton Inn will bring a new stream of revenue to the city via hotel / motel tax, it is only the first of what Elkins said will be many steps.

"We are definitely going to need more to accommodate events we have out at the softball field or the fairgrounds and to accommodate more oil workers as energy exploration moves into full swing this summer," she said.

Elkins said the EDC is working diligently to recruit more builders and bring other hotel chains to the area. Although she said she couldn't comment on exactly which chains are currently looking, Elkins did say that those she has talked to are name brand establishments.

Shifflet said The Hampton Inn offers multiple amenities to its guests including an indoor pool, large fitness facility and a continental breakfast that features waffles, bacon and sausage served daily from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

There are 63 rooms available in the facility including rooms with one, or two beds and six larger rooms with pull-out sofas.

"You can easily sleep three people in the rooms with the sofas," she said.

Shifflet, formally the manager of the Holiday Inn Express in Chickasha, said she is excited about the challenge accompanied with running The Hampton Inn.

"This looks like it's going to be a really good place," she said.

The Hampton Inn will start taking online reservations on Feb. 18.
