A 37-year-old Fort Cobb man died in a single vehicle accident, west of Alex, at 2:15 a.m. Monday morning. This accident was investigated by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Brent Tucker and was assisted by Grady County Sheriff's Department and Chickasha Police Department.
Officers report Ronald G. Merritt, Jr. was driving a 2011 Dodge truck eastbound on Highway 19, one mile west of Alex, at a high-rate of speed.The right tire deflated causing the driver to lose control. The truck went off the roadway and flipped end over end twice and rolled three additional times. Merritt was ejected approximately 110 feet and died at the scene.
Tucker, who investigated the accident, reported an odor of alcohol on Merritt. Seat belts were not in use at the time of the accident and airbags were deployed.
