Seven charged in Caddo County barn burglary

CHICKASHA — Seven suspects are charged in Grady County District Court with knowingly concealing stolen property in connection with a February burglary of a farmer's barn in Caddo County in which the haul included a half-dozen rifles, three shotguns, a John Deere tractor, guitar and two game cameras.

During initial appearances for four defendants - Casey E. Cornell, 24; Tennison L. Henderson, 19; Michael J. Beer, 23; and Jeffery R. Diaz, 26 - bond was set at $2,000 each and preliminary hearing conferences were set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Cornell, Henderson and Diaz are all from Tuttle. Beer lists a Blanchard address.

Warants are outstanding for the remaining three defendants - Matthew L. Griffith and Coltyn Reed, both 19 and both from Tuttle; and Bryan D. Phelps, 21, of Stillwater.

According to an affidavit by Special Agent Michael Hooper of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the burglary occurred between Feb. 3 and 5 at a barn belonging to Erick K. Nickell. The barn is located on the north side of Lake Chickasha.

Nickell told investigators that the barn's locked walk-through door had been kicked in.

Items taken in the burglary included a 30-30 Winchester rifle, 30-30 Marlin rifle, .223 Model 25 Savage rifle with Leupold scope, 7 mm Mag Remington Model 700 rifle with Pentax scope, 338 Mag Remington Model 700 BDL rifle with Bushnell scope, 300 Weatherby Mag rifle, 12 gauge Remington Wingmaster Model 870 shotgun, 20 gauge Mossberg bolt action shotgun, 20 gauge Springfield pump action shotgun, 5120 John Deere tractor, Gibson Epiphone guitar and two Bushnell game cameras.

Investigators found footprints on the door and also a debit card receipt that led Hooper to Kendra Lange of Tuttle, who told Hooper that she knew about the burglary, as well as the people who took the weapons. During subsequent interviews, according to the affidavit, Henderson, Griffith and Reed, along with Joshua L. Earley and Dominiq L. Tisdale, admitted commiting the burglary. Henderson and Earley destroyed the game cameras, according to the affidavit.

The weapons were taken by Henderson and Griffith to Diaz's house where those three along with Beer, Cornell and Phelps took their choice of the firepower. In addition, the affidavit states, Cornell admitted driving the tractor from the property to a location where it got stuck. Nickell recovered the tractor.

All of the remaining items, with the exception of the 30-30 Winchester rifle, were recovered from the seven defendants.
