Local girl donates hair

For quite some time Lillie Oberlender, local 10 year old, has been growing out her hair.  Not because she wanted long hair to braid or fix up but for a higher purpose.  She had watched a friend and fellow church member, Hanna Kennedy, do the same thing.  She wanted to grow out her hair to donate it to be used to make wigs for cancer patients.  Last Friday Lillie had an appointment with Leslie Sterkel, a hair dresser with the Casbah who got to work preparing the hair for donation.  Leslie first put her hair in a ponytail and then braided it.  Leslie said,  "They use to ask that the hair be braided and left in the ponytail for transport and to keep it all together."  Lillie mailed her donated hair to the Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program on Monday.  Pantene's website has a list of steps to be taken for the donated hair to useful.  Lillie is hoping her actions will inspire others to follow her lead and get a short summer hair cut and donate their hair to such a worthy cause.
