Variety of winter weather hits county

GRADY COUNTY — Winter Storm Rocky hit Grady County on Monday. Lt. Governor Tom Lamb declared a state of emergency for 56 Oklahoma counties, including Grady.

Brief power outages occurred in Rush Springs and north of Chickasha, Dale Thompson, Grady County Emergency Management Director said. At the time of this report, Thompson had not received any reports from Minco.

Rush Springs received three inches of snow. There was also snowfall south of Ninnekah. The light dusting that Chickasha got was melted by Tuesday morning.

Temperatures were about 34 degrees as late as 10 p.m. last night, Thompson said.

Rush Springs Public Schools, Minco Public Schools and Cement Public Schools were all closed due to the storm.

According to The Weather Channel, there was one death related to the storm in Woodward, when the snow collapsed on the man's house. In an unrelated incident, the snow in Woodward caused the roof of a Walmart to partially collapse.

There were widespread power outages near Enid and road closures included U.S. 270, U.S. 283 as well as portions of northbound U.S. 81. Thousands of Oklahomans were without power.
