CHICKASHA — City Hall

Closes July 5



Chickasha City Hall will be closed July 5  in observance of the 4th of July holiday.  

All regular City services will resume on Tuesday.

Waste Connections advised that it will be business-as-usual for the sanitation services on July 4.  





PEO Chapter

Plans Meeting



Members of P.E.O. Chapter FV will meet Mon., July 5, 2010 in the Epworth UM Church Parlor.

Social time will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the business meeting following at 7 p.m.

Hostesses will be Sharon Thompson, Sherre Brauer and Suzi Stewart.

Local artist Elizabeth Johnson will present the program ‘Wishes for Artistic Outlets’.

The annual McMasters/Massey Reunion will last from 9 a.m.  to 4 p.m. July 10 at the Borden Community Center in Chickasha.

All family and friends are invited to attend.



Alex Classes

Will Meet



Alex School graduating classes of 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1961 will host a get-together July 20, at the Best Western Motel in Chickasha. Everyone is encouraged to convene around the motel's pool area in the afternoon to visit until the meal is served at 6 .pm. TEA Party Accepting Donations



The Grady County TEA Party is accepting donations for a garage sale to be held in July. If you would like to donate items or need items picked up, please call Bill at 405 274-6381 or Carl at 405 224-6547.  Monetary donations are also welcome. Ms. Fit Teen Challenge set



Ms. Fit Teen Challenge at FLO Health and Fitness is in full swing and is seeking sponsors to donate water for the participants and is also looking for community volunteers to help with back-to-school makeovers for the particpants.

Ms, Fit has partnered with several individuals and entities to provide a fun and educational experience to get school-age girls more health conscious and to assist them in their quest to be in better shape. Strength training, zumba, aerobics, self-defense and nutrition lessons will be given.

The cost is $20 per girl and class will begin on June 7 - July 30, 7-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Bereavement Luncheons



LifeLine Hospice will be hosting a Bereavement Luncheons in the LifeLine Home Health and Hospice Conference Room at 12 p.m. on these dates:   July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, and Nov. 19. For information, please call 405-222-2051.



Author featured at luncheon



 The Chickasha Friends of the Library will have there second summer luncheon on July 1st at noon in the USAO Regent’s Room. It will feature Eve Sandstrom who writes the Chocoholic Mystery series under the name Joanna Carl.  

Mrs. Sandstroms 11th book in this series, The Chocolate Pirate Plot, will be out this fall. She will be discussing how she researches for her novels.  The Chocoholic Mysteries feature Lee McKinley, a former Texas Beauty Queen, who finds herself the manager of her aunt’s chocolate store in a Michigan resort town.

 The luncheon cost is $13 and reservations are required.  They may be made by calling 222-4958 and leaving your name and a call back number or by mailing your reservation to P. O. Box 265 Chickasha, OK 73023.  Reservations need to be received by June 29th.  The final luncheon in the series will be held on August 5th and feature Oklahoma Children’s Author Krystal Russell.



6th annual Lavender Festival



The 6th annual Lavender Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2010. The event hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first 100 visitors will receive a free bottle of Lavender Hydrosol. There will be hourly drawings for free prizes. Jag Sodhi will be conducting free hourly tours of the lavender gardens to share his experience and knowledge of growing lavender in southwest Oklahoma.

This year’s festival will feature about 20 vendors; local Oklahoma vineyards, candles makers, peanut farms, woodcrafts, and other local vendors.

As always, the Lavender Valley Acres shop will have live lavender plants, lavender essential oil, culinary lavender buds, lavender lotion, lavender candles, and other lavender products for sale. The shop also sells imported clothing, sterling silver jewelry w/gems, and brass gifts from India.

The festival will house live entertainment all day. It will feature members of the GRISSELHEADS band. Other features will be two belly dancing troops.

Break fast and lunch will include hamburgers, hot dogs, lavender drinks, lavender cookies, and desserts, India specialty food and lavender chicken will be available.

There will be wine tasting from two Oklahoma wineries.

We are very proud to invite Dr. Shireen Bhargava of Precision Laser Center, Lawton, Oklahoma. Her staff will share the techniques to beautify your self. They will also take blood pressure and pulse for free.



Summer Fun Festival



Bridge Creek will play host it’s first Summer Fun Festival on Aug. 21. The Summer Fun Fest will start at 9 a.m. with a parade and will feature a homemade salsa contest, vendor booths, food booths, car show, Little Miss Bridge Creek Contest, entertainment, inflatables, a rock climbing wall and bunge jumping. Raffle tickets will be sold for an autographed pennant and fun pack of our 2010 Oklahoma City Thunder,  an autographed photo from the famous Harlem Globe Trotters,  NFL Buffalo Bills Fred Jackson autographed photo, Buffalo Bills Brian Moorman autographed photo and shirt among other items.   

Booth space is still available . Vendor Food Booths are $100, booths without electricity are $30 and  booths with electricity are $40.

All proceeds will go toward the purchase and development of land for Bridge Creek Little League.



Leadership Chickasha, an educational, issues-oriented community leadership program will be taking applications in August and accepting nominations for the class scheduled to begin in October 2010.  Applications will be available online or at the Chamber office in August.

Class size will be limited to 25.

Class participants will be exposed to the social and environmental complexities of the city, county and state.  In addition to

learning about the opportunities, needs and resources that exist in the Chickasha area, class members will also be trained

in a variety of lifelong skills such as Negotiation and Mediation; Public Speaking; Dealing with the Media; Business Eti-

quette; and Stress Management.   

This class will be the 12th group through the program since Leadership Chickasha graduated the first class in the 1980’s.  

Many of the Leadership Chickasha alumni have taken prominent roles in state and local  leadership.  Partidevote one Thursday per month for seven months for the interactive seminars that encompass the following:

• Understanding city, county and state government

• Communication skills  

• Public Speaking and Presentation Skills  

•  Dealing with Media

•  Stress Management    

•  Business etiquette

Tuition is $300 per person and payment arrangements can be made. Call the Chickasha Chamber for more information.



The Main Street Association will present a History Walk from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17.

Guided tours through a few of downtown Chickasha’s most historic buildings, including Washita Theatre, The Dixie, Petroleum Building, and the First National Bank. Ending with a reception at the Rock Island Depot.  

The tour will include live music in the pocket park and a stop at the Liberty Drug Store for a coke.  

Tickets will be free but required. Tickets will be available at the Chamber of Commerce, 221 Chickasha Ave. in August.
