Emergency Medical Response Agency discussed at Commissioners Meeting

An emergency medical response agency, in which firefighters could provide basic emergency medical assistance was discussed at the Grady County Commissioner's meeting on Monday morning.

Dale Thompson, Grady County Emergency Management Director, said that it can take 20 to 30 minutes for people in rural areas to receive medical service.

The care that would be provided by the emergency medical response agency would be basic first aid.

There are numerous concerns, however. Jack Porter, Grady County Commissioner District 3, noted that the medical response agency would need to be clear about its bounds.

There may be a way to certify the people within the agency as volunteers, which might cover their liability.

Brandon Bowen and Russell Brand of the Oklahoma State Department of Health gave a short presentation of the emergency management response agency.

The issue is still within the discussion phase, but is a possibility if liability and sponsorship issues are further developed.

In other business:

    •    The storm siren for Lake Burtschi may be installed after June 1 so that state emergency management may be able to help with funding the siren, Thompson said.

    •    Thompson discussed the NIMS training.

    •    The Grady County Treasurer's Disaster Recovery Plan was approved.

    •    The Grady County Treasurer's Depository Agreements was approved.

    •    A motion was approved to dispose of equipment for District 3.

    •    The application for permit from Enogex Gas Gathering LLC, a permit to cross with a natural gas pipeline, a county road or highway of Sections 28 and 33-T7N-R5W. '

    •    Blanket purchase orders 123427 to 123433, 123436 and 123437 were approved.
