CHICKASHA —
After a go-ahead nod from the district attorney’s office and county commissioners, a contract between the sheriff’s department and Kansas State Bank of Manhattan was approved.
The contract will provide for the lease purchase of three used 2005 or newer vehicles. Police Units Unlimited, located in Shawnee, submitted the lone, winning bid of $29,500.
The vehicles include a $9,000 price tag for a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria with 68,773 miles; a $6,000 price tag for a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria with 73,071 miles; and a $14,500 price tag for a 2007 Dodge Charger with 36,378 miles.
In other business, the commissioners denied a request from a resident who purchased a lot from the county sight unseen and then wanted to exchange it for a property of similar value.
“I purchased the property thinking it was a regular, full-size lot,” she said, “but didn’t know it was a triangular lot and sits between two streets.”
Grady County Treasurer Robin Burton advised the commissioners that “it’s a buyer beware sale” and that the notices of lots for sale are published in the newspaper in ample time for potential buyers to check into the property.
“I don’t feel like the county is in the business of trading property,” Burton said.
Commissioner Chairman Mike Lennier said he agreed that a buyer has ample time to see a property before purchase. The commissioners unanimously denied the request.
Burton also brought it to the commissioners attention that interest has been shown in property in the Amber area between the railroad and the highway by a county resident. She said the land involves about four acres and someone approached her office with a $100 bid for it. She said the property is located at the south end of Amber. Legal description is Section 19 T8N R6W, Part of Tract S.E. Quarter of N.W. Quarter.
She said the county can conduct a sale and auction for the property. The commissioners voted to go out for bids.
