Chickasha City Council members acted Monday on a number of items, including some discussed during a work session last month, and their decisions could bring close to 20 new jobs to Chickasha.
The council voted unanimously to consider an application by the Washita Valley Community Action Council to build an Early Head Start Center, which would inject 16 or more positions into the local economy.
The center would be the town's second head start center. The current center offers a program designed to prepare 3- and 4- year-olds for elementary school. The new Early Head Start Center will focus on children between the ages of 1 and 3, said Director Peggy Sayers.
Sayers said they plan to build a modular structure near the current Head Start Center at 1300 S. 7th Street. Estimated cost to build the structure is $188,000. It will stand on a permanent foundation.
Council members also voted unanimously to further plans to increase revenue through Honeywell Energy Solutions and to sign a contract with STUDIO Architecture to complete plans to renovate the 6th Street police station.
Honeywell sent a team of engineers to Chickasha last month to propose changes in the city's infrastructure that could increase revenue from utilities. The team proposed changing to new electronic water meters and developing a city wide Internet service that works.
Within three to four months, Honeywell will provide a comprehensive plan for Chickasha that will be implemented within 18 months from today, said Jose Torres, an account executive with Honeywell.
If Chickasha accepts the plan, it will sign a long term contract with Honeywell to continue infrastructure developments that will modernize Chickasha..
