USAO houses battle of bands

CHICKASHA — They came, they battled and they rocked. Six bands competed in The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma's annual Battle of the Bands competition Wednesday night in Te Ata Auditorium.

The six bands were from all over the state of Oklahoma and all had different styles. Eureeka, a two man experimental electronic rock group opened up the competition. Mortal Within, a four man alternative southern rock group performed shortly after. Burning the Shadows, a six person metal group performed third, and was the only band with a female member. J.L. Jones, a solo performer on electric guitar sang folk, blues and traditional rock songs. Dead Weight, a four man classic rock and roll group performed last in the Battle of the Bands competition.

The audience was asked to cast their vote to help chose which band should be the winner of a $300 prize, in addition to an opening slot at next year's Droverstock festival. The winner will be announced Monday on the event's Facebook page.
