Am-Po, Minco set for rematch in semis

MINCO — Friday's second-round Grady County Tournament schedule features a rematch between the two teams that met in last season's boys championship game.

The Amber-Pocasset Panthers will play the Minco Bulldogs at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.

Last season, Minco beat Am-Po 56-53 in the championship game at USAO, leading by as many as 17 points before the Panthers made a comeback attempt.

The Panthers won the tournament in 2011, and before last year, Minco had not won the Grady County Tournament since 2003.

Both teams lost several key players from last year to graduation.

Am-Po lost seniors such as Jeff Jackson, Chase Johnson and Kyler Nichols, while Minco lost Carrie Farmer, Cade Baade and Steven Whalen, among others.

Amber-Pocasset beat Ninnekah and Minco beat Dibble in the first round to advance to the semifinals this week.

Other Friday games include the Alex Lady Longhorns against Oklahoma Christian Academy at 4 p.m., Verden against Rush Springs boys at 5:30 p.m., and Verden against Ninnekah girls at 7 p.m.
