Lady Chicks tie Carl Albert in season opener

— The Chickasha High School girls soccer team earned a tie with the Carl Albert Lady Titans in Midwest City on Tuesday, and lost in a penalty kick shootout.

The game counts as a tie on Chickasha's record.

Carl Albert gave the Lady Chicks their only two losses last season, making it a tough game to start the year for a young team.

"We are a young program, and we are rebuilding some, but the expectations are still just as high," head coach Bethany Goble said.

Chickasha went down 1-0 early, but tied the game after a corner kick by Kelsey Taylor led to a goal by Tara Arnold.

Goble said she has a number of players who were on the field despite having to play through pain.

"We had some girls out there playing on sprained ankles, just fighting," Goble said.

This year's team will be led by players like Taylor and senior Hannah Elrod, but Goble said there are some younger players stepping up to fill important roles.

"We lost some big leaders last year, not just on the field, but the leadership," Goble said. "But we actually have a lot of freshmen stepping up."
