Drovers get SAC awards

CHICKASHA — USAO’s leading scorer, Rocio Medrano, was named All-Conference Honorable Mention, the Sooner Athletic Conference released Monday.

Medrano, who averages nearly 12 points a game, has scored a total of 333 points and collected 155 rebounds for the season.

She had a season-high 23 points in a conference win over Saint Gregory’s in late January. In that game, she went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.

The senior from Chihuahua, Mexico, has had three double-doubles on the season. Additionally, she’s had 35 assists, 22 steals and six blocks.

She transferred to USAO last winter from Robert Morris University. She also played two seasons at Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Medrano is a math senior and is the daughter of Gilberto and Elsa Medrano.

Academic All-Conference

In addition the Medrano, seven other players were recognized as Academic All-Conference selections: Paige Pulliam, Tashina Ototivo, Krista Ford, Amber Chaney, Celeste Smith, Rashelle Carr and Brittany Scott.

While each school had at least one Academic All-Conference athlete, USAO’s seven was the highest number any individual school had.

Pulliam is a biology junior from Newcastle, and Ototivo is a psychology senior from Walters. Ford is a history senior from Lubbock, Texas, while Chaney is an education junior from Ninnekah.

Smith is a business senior from Melbourne, Australia, and Carr is a physical education junior from Duncan. Scott is a physical education senior from Rowlett, Texas.
