Funeral services for Helen Smith, 92, of Cyril, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, in the First Baptist Church of Cyril with Charles Echols officiating.
Helen Evelyn Smith went home to be with the Lord Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 in Chickasha. She was born in Russellville, Ala. on Sept. 23, 1919 to Charley King and Ludy (James) King. She came to Oklahoma when she was 6 years old on a train with her mother and three siblings. They were joining her dad who was employed here.
Helen married Alvin Joy Smith on Nov. 25, 1939 in Anadarko.
Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cyril. She loved to garden and to quilt. Family members cherish their gifts of her beautiful handmade quilts. They are truly a work of art.
Helen operated a small daycare in her home and babysat many of the children of Cyril’s residents. She loved each of these children and has at least one special story about each one of them.
She was preceded in death by: her husband of 55 years, Alvin Smith; both parents; three brothers, Ralph, Charles and Druie King; three sisters, Annie Pearl King, Mae Duncan, Wilma Welsh, and one great grandson, Ayden Beene.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Abbott and husband Michael of Madison, Ala.; her son, Ronald Smith and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers, Chester King, of Florence, Alab.a and Alvin King, of San Antonio, Texas and one sister, Thelma Sue Roberts, of Blanchard.
Interment was in the Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
