Funeral service for Ozie Lee Smith, age 95 of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, in the Verden First Baptist Church. Rev. Troy Taylor will officiate.

Ozie Lee was born the daughter of Arthur Alexander and Vinnie Coburn Alexander on January 11, 1917 in Benington, Oklahoma. She died on January 24, 2012 in Verden.

She married Steve Fletcher Smith in March of 1936 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. They moved to Verden in 1943. Ozie worked at Deb’s Café in Verden as a cook for a number of years and worked for twenty years at the Peanut Plant at Anadarko. After retiring, she and her husband did yard work for various Verden residents as well as the First Baptist Church. She loved to work in her flower beds. She was especially devoted to helping serve lunch at the Senior Citizens Center. She served for 15 years up until her time of death. Ozie was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Arthur and Vinnie Alexander; six brothers, Cecil, Coyce, A.V., Doe, Hoyt, and Junior Alexander; two sisters, FloDale Johnson and Laverne Pierce; husband, Steve; daughter, Shirley Hughes; great grandson, Blake Ryan Kennedy.

Survivors include Son & Wife: Donnie & Roberta Smith of Verden; Son & Wife: J. W. & Maribeth Smith of Chickasha; Daughter: Lulabelle Horn of Verden; Daughter & Husband: Betty & Loren Heavin of Verden; Daughter: Sharon Hervey of Gracemont; Sister: Amma Gene Hughes of Oklahoma City; Numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
