Hermina Dohogne Novotny

January 28, 1915 - Feb. 11, 2012

CHICKASHA — Funeral Mass for  Hermina Dohogne Novotny, age 97, of Chickasha will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at the Holy Name Catholic Church.  A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home.

Hermina Dohogne Novotny was born January 28, 1915 to Leo and Mary (Schebert) Dohogne and reared in the Miami area.  She was active in 4H Club work. She graduated from Miami High School, Northwestern Oklahoma Jr. College and Oklahoma State University. She died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 in Chickasha.

She taught at Crooked Oak School, Oklahoma City and Luther Oklahoma. She then became  Supervisor for Farmer’s Home Administration in Okfuskee County in Okemah.  She then began working as the Home Demonstration Agent for Wagoner County. Later she became Associate Foods and Nutrition Specialist for Cooperation Extension at Oklahoma State University where she traveled throughout Oklahoma.

During this time she belonged to the Oklahoma Teachers Association, Business and Professional Womens Association, Beta Sigma Phi, American Home Economics Association, County and State Nutrition Association, a Modern Book Club, a Flower Club and a Federated Study Club.

On July 23, 1955 she married Cyril Novotny in Stillwater and moved north of Chickasha. In 1961 as a volunteer she organized and operated “The Cerebral Palsy Day Care Center” in Chickasha for nineteen years for the handicapped children who had no other program.  This included a total of 29 children.  She also assisted the Oklahoma Knights of Columbus in Constructing “The Center of Family Love” in Okarche for disabled adults.  She served on their Board of Trustees for 13 years and still belonged to their Parent Guardian Organization

She became active in Family Community Education when moving here serving on many committees and holding many group and county offices over the years. She has received nine state awards for her group and county projects and attended 12 National Conventions.

She belonged to the Holy Name Catholic Church and held offices in the Catholic Women’s Activities, Catholic Daughters of America, on the Church Board, the Church Finance Committee and was an Eucharist Minstrel.

Also in Chickasha she was an active member of the American Association of the University for 18 years,  She belonged to the American Shoppers Panel, Farm Bureau,  Farmers Extension Workers, OSU Foundation and was an Ambassador for HE at OSU.

In 1973 she was honored by Beta Sigma Phi as “First Lady of the Year” for her volunteer work with the disabled.  She also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 8, 1976 as well as her parents.  Also by her brothers John and Leo Dohogne, and her sister Lucille Martin.

She is survived by her daughter Pauline Novotny, who lives at the Center for Family Love in Okarche.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier  Funeral Home.
