John W Butler, 77, passed away Sunday morning August 15, 2010, after a short battle with lung cancer.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Dr S., Fort Worth 76109. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Michael Butler, Hoot Thomas, Larry Norrell, Larry Glenn Norrell, Robert Norrell and Rein Lewis.
John was born June 16, 1933, in Shawnee, Okla. to Mabel G. and Shirl P. Butler, Sr. The family lived several places in Oklahoma throughout his younger years. He graduated high school in 1951 from Chickasha High School. That fall he entered the U. S. Marine Corps. He served in Korea with the 1st Marine Division beginning in 1952. He received an honorable discharge August 26, 1955, as Staff Sergeant. He graduated from Florida State University in June, 1959, with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He met and married Janice (Jan) Butler while managing the Glendale House Restaurant in Indianapolis, Ind. They moved to California in 1967 and then to Texas in 1968. It became home to them and their three daughters, each being his favorite.
John enjoyed his family and friends but especially his grandchildren. He was known for his sense of humor, and infectious chuckle. He never met a stranger and was greatly loved by all. He will be missed.
Survivors: John is survived by his wife, Jan; daughters, Barbara Norrell of Whitewright, Valorie Lewis of Flower Mound and Teresa Thomas of Lubbock; grandchildren, Jordan Belcher, Matthew Belcher, Luke Norrell, Reagan Thomas and Presley Thomas; brother, Shirl P. Butler, Jr. of Tulsa; and sister, Phyllis Johnson of Mancos, Colo.
