GLEN R. HASTINGS



Funeral services for Dr. Glen R. Hastings, 84, former Lawton resident will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Willoughby and Dr. William F. Watkins, officiating.

Dr. Hastings died Saturday, August 18, at Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Glen was born on August 28, 1922 on a farm in Tillman County, Oklahoma. He moved with his family in 1924 to a farm southwest of Lawton and, although his profession required living in other cities, he eventually returned to the family farm in 1971. He held undergraduate degrees from Cameron Junior College and Central State College as well as a Masters and Doctor of Education Degree from Oklahoma University. He also completed two post-doctoral fellowships; one at the University of Chicago and the other at Northwestern University of Chicago.

Dr. Hastings worked as a teacher and coach at Sterling and Cyril and Superintendent of schools at Loveland, Geronimo and Chickasha. He was a full professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Northern Iowa.

At Oklahoma University, Dr. Hastings was a research associate and coordinator of psychological services and program evaluation. The Department of Army recruited Dr. Hastings as a counseling psychologist at Reynolds Army Community Hospital. After retirement, he joined the Lawton Public Schools where he served as school psychologist. He was Director of Special Education when he retired from public education in 1985.

Glen loved his country and enlisted in the US Army Air Force for Aviation Cadet Training in 1943. He served at various domestic air bases until he was released from active duty following WW II. Glen remained active in the Air Force Reserve and in 1956 transferred to the US Army Reserve. He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, the Institute of the Armed Forces and the Army War College.

He retired from the US Army Reserves at the grade of Colonel.

Dr. Hastings received many honors for outstanding achievement in his profession and published 4 books and numerous journal articles for professional publications as well as historical genealogical books and journals. He recently completed a book titled “Grandpa’s Wash Day Tales” which is filled with wonderful memories of his life. Glen was always active in his church and while living in Lawton , he served as a deacon and Sunday School Department Director at 1st Baptist Church of Lawton.

Even with all of his honors and achievements, Glen’s greatest pride and joy was in the legacy of his family. Glen wrote these words to his children:” I believe and have lived my life to testify using a Latin phrase; ‘non omnis moriar’ which means I shall never really die. I will continue to live on through you, your children and their children yet to come. Praise God for making us a family who will ‘non omnis moriar’.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Dolphy and Betty Ruth Mahaney Hastings; his brothers, Floyd and Leo; and his first wife, Mary Evelyn. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of 60 years, Winifred, married November 28, 1946 in Chickasha ; son, Richard Hastings and his wife Judy of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; son, Ron Hastings and his wife Sandie, of Fort Worth , Texas ; and daughter, Glenna Moe and her husband Dick of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He will be dearly missed by his 7 grandchildren: Jay, Beth, Ben, Katie, Tabitha, Jessica, and Bethany and his very special great-grandchildren: Landon, McKenna, Caris, and Kate. GENEVA WANN

Graveside service for Geneva Wann, age 72, formerly of Cement, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2007, in the Cement Cemetery. Rev. Ray Weathers will officiate.

Geneva Wann was born on March 18, 1935 in McRae, Arkansas. She died on August 20, 2007 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.

VERTILENE

THOMPSON TAYLOR

Funeral service for Vertilene Thompson Taylor, 83, of Alex, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Middleberg Baptist Church.

Vertilene Thompson Taylor was born December 13, 1924 in Madill, Oklahoma and died August 21, 2007 in Chickasha.

She lived in Grady County all of her life. She and Rogene Taylor were married January 3, 1944 in Chickasha. They owned and operated a dairy farm north of Alex for many years.

She was preceded in death by: Parents; two sisters; one brother.

Survivors include: Husband: Rogene Taylor of the home; one son: Ronnie Taylor and wife Shirley of Alex; three daughters: Elaine Drennan and husband Ricky of Alex; Brenda Johnson and husband Greg of Alex; Regena Reeves and husband Rick of Alex; one sister: Willa Dean Fisher of Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren: Tammy Taylor, Todd Taylor, Tyanne Taylor, Trent Drennan, Crystie Shebester, Jake Johnson, Ryan Reeves and Ross Reeves; five great-grandchildren: Dillon Brewer, Amanda Taylor, Blake Taylor, Cooper Shebester, and Konner Shebester.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
