Tom Story

— Tom Story



Funeral service for Tom Story, 92, of Alex, Oklahoma will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Alex.

Tom Story was born December 12, 1920 in Alex, Oklahoma, the son of Elmer and Mamie (Maloney) Story.  He died March 4, 2013 at his home in Alex, Oklahoma. Tom was a graduate of Alex High School.  He started his farming career with 18 acres given to him by his father.  He used the acreage to produce a broom corn crop, which provided the money needed to buy a cattle truck.  That truck ultimately provided the money he needed to take his wife, Maxine Mackey.  They were married November 23, 1940 in Chickasha.  Two years later he came home from delivering a load of cattle to receive his draft papers and reported for duty the next day.  He served in the 487th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.  His military service took him to New Guinea and the Philippines.  Tom was saved while serving in the U.S. Army.  After returning home from World War II, he and his wife owned and operated Story Grocery until he later returned to farming.  Tom also served his community with 20 years of service on the Alex School Board.  He lived in the Alex Community his entire life.

He was preceded in death by: Parents:  Elmer and Mamie Story and A sister:  Peggy Brand

Survivors include: Wife:  Maxine Story of the home in Alex; Daughter:  Pamela Garrett and husband Bob of Dallas, Texas; Grandson:  Billy Garrett of Kansas City; Nephew:  Bob Brand and wife Zana of Oklahoma City; Niece:  Cindy Brand of Alex; Great nephews:  Dustin Brand and Shannon Brand and daughters Shea and Sylvie of Duncan.

Interment will be in the Alex Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

  • Patsy McDonald Rhymes

    Patsy McDonald Rhymes, 62, of Chickasha, beloved wife of Danny Rhymes, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.  She will be greatly missed by a large and loving extended family and many friends.  Patsy was a devoted wife and mother and spent most of her time caring for her family. 
    She is survived by her husband Danny, her son Starling and his wife Connie, and grandchildren Rochelle and Michael.  Patsy was especially close to her niece Pam and also leaves behind her brothers Charles, Paige, and Roland along with her sisters Thelma and Jeana. 
    Graveside services were held in Hominy,  on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. and will be officiated by her longtime family minister, Rev. Leonard Lindsay.  Arrangements are being handled by Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma.

    Private graveside services were held for Noyka Hadley, 67, of Chickasha, on Wednesday May 15, 2013 in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
    Noyka was born on February 10, 1946, in Houston, Texas. She died May 11, 2013, in Chickasha.
    Services were under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

  • Lois Morris

    Funeral service for Lois Morris, 89, of Chickasha, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Chickasha.  Lois was born June 13, 1923, the daughter of Elva L. and Eva Opal (Heavin) Keeton.  She died May 13, 2013, in Muskogee.

    Graveside services for Betty Jo James, 84.will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the Westview Cemetery in Rush Springs under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs. Visitation will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City and Wednesday and Thursday at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs.
    Betty was born in Cox City,  on Thursday, Sept. 27, 1928 and passed from this life on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Elk City.

  • Freida Perkins

    Funeral services for Freida Perkins, 95, of Chickasha,  will be 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home.
    Freida Perkins was born March 19, 1918, at Kalamazoo, Michigan.  She passed away at her home on Saturday, May 11, 2013.
    Mrs. Perkins married Daniel Perkins on November 14, 1940.  She and Daniel lived in New Mexico from 1940 to 1980, when they moved to the Amber area.
    She had worked in the New Mexico public school system and after moving to Amber she worked at the Amber Café for seven years.
    She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Perkins in 1986 and a son, Danny Perkins in 2010.
    Mrs. Perkins is survived by a sister, Esther Healey, of PawPaw, Michigan; four grandchildren:  Penny Fuller, George Perkins, Wayne Perkins and T.J. Perkins; 11 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; Daughter-in-law:  Wynema Perkins. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Carla and Eddie.
    Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
