Memorial services will be held for Rita Alice McClaskey, 65, of Chickasha, at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 in the Coles Garden Chapel, Oklahoma City.
Rita McClaskey was born on March 20, 1947 in Maud, to her parents, Edith and Ralph McClaskey. She passed from this life on Sept. 21, 2012.
Rita graduated from Maud High School as valedictorian in 1965. She received a psychology degree from Oklahoma State University and later earned a Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. She then received her license as a professional counselor.
Rita began her career as a therapist working in community mental health and worked at Chisholm Trail Mental Health Center in Grady County for most of her career. She later became the Clinical Director for both Grady and Canadian counties.
She was one of the founding mothers of Women’s Service & Family Resource Center, founded in 1981, for Grady and Canadian Counties. She was instrumental in growing services for victims of rape and domestic violence from a single phone hotline to a multiple agency comprehensive service center for families.
In 2000, Rita acted as consultant for the professional development committee of the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to build a curriculum for statewide training to certify professionals in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault. She trained hundreds of advocates across the state of Oklahoma. Also in the year 2000, the Coalition presented Rita with a “Bright and Shining Star” award as a “true advocate for the elimination of violence.” She touched the lives of people from all walks of life throughout her career, guiding them through the journey of healing.
In 2004, Rita was honored by students at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma for her efforts to eliminate violence against women. In 2008, she was recognized in “Century of Influence”, a publication commemorating the YWCA Oklahoma City’s 100th anniversary, celebrating the amazing influence of women in our community. In 2011, Rita was honored by Women’s Service & Family Resource Center for her 30 years of service.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Ralph McClaskey of Maud, and her loving son, Adam Brooking of Chickasha.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nikki Jones Edwards and Marc Edwards and grandson, Sam Edwards, all of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Hunter of Chickasha; Brynn of Norman and Kennadi of Fort Worth, TX; sister and brother in law, Sharon and Ken Choat of Bartlesville; brother and sister-in-law Virginia and Gary McClaskey of Maud. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Rita leaves a legacy of peace to be carried on by all of the women and men she has inspired. Rita was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and a mentor to countless.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be graciously given to Women’s Family Resource Center of Chickasha or the Women & Genders Studies Program at the University of Oklahoma.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

Patsy McDonald Rhymes
Patsy McDonald Rhymes, 62, of Chickasha, beloved wife of Danny Rhymes, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. She will be greatly missed by a large and loving extended family and many friends. Patsy was a devoted wife and mother and spent most of her time caring for her family.
She is survived by her husband Danny, her son Starling and his wife Connie, and grandchildren Rochelle and Michael. Patsy was especially close to her niece Pam and also leaves behind her brothers Charles, Paige, and Roland along with her sisters Thelma and Jeana.
Graveside services were held in Hominy, on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. and will be officiated by her longtime family minister, Rev. Leonard Lindsay. Arrangements are being handled by Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma. -
Nyoka “Jo” Hadley
Private graveside services were held for Noyka Hadley, 67, of Chickasha, on Wednesday May 15, 2013 in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
Noyka was born on February 10, 1946, in Houston, Texas. She died May 11, 2013, in Chickasha.
Services were under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

Lois Morris
Funeral service for Lois Morris, 89, of Chickasha, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Chickasha. Lois was born June 13, 1923, the daughter of Elva L. and Eva Opal (Heavin) Keeton. She died May 13, 2013, in Muskogee.

Graveside services for Betty Jo James, 84.will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the Westview Cemetery in Rush Springs under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs. Visitation will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City and Wednesday and Thursday at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs.
Betty was born in Cox City, on Thursday, Sept. 27, 1928 and passed from this life on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Elk City.

Freida Perkins
Funeral services for Freida Perkins, 95, of Chickasha, will be 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home.
Freida Perkins was born March 19, 1918, at Kalamazoo, Michigan. She passed away at her home on Saturday, May 11, 2013.
Mrs. Perkins married Daniel Perkins on November 14, 1940. She and Daniel lived in New Mexico from 1940 to 1980, when they moved to the Amber area.
She had worked in the New Mexico public school system and after moving to Amber she worked at the Amber Café for seven years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Perkins in 1986 and a son, Danny Perkins in 2010.
Mrs. Perkins is survived by a sister, Esther Healey, of PawPaw, Michigan; four grandchildren: Penny Fuller, George Perkins, Wayne Perkins and T.J. Perkins; 11 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; Daughter-in-law: Wynema Perkins. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Carla and Eddie.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. -
